1. Introduction and Acceptance of Terms
Welcome to Blades Sharpening Services! We’re a family-run sharpening business based in Arlington, Texas, carrying on the legacy started by the late Ken Thornton. These Terms and Conditions (“Terms”) govern your use of our website located at [Insert the website link] and all related services we provide, including mobile sharpening visits, mail-in sharpening, and pickup/drop-off services.
By accessing our website, submitting tools for sharpening, or engaging with our services in any way, you agree to be legally bound by these Terms. If you don’t agree with any part of these Terms, please don’t use our services. We’re straightforward folks who believe in transparency, so we’ve written these terms in plain language you can actually understand, no legalese, smoke, or mirrors here.
We may update these Terms occasionally as our business evolves or to comply with legal requirements. When we make changes, we’ll update the “Last Updated” date at the top of this page. Your continued use of our services after changes are posted means you accept the updated Terms. If a change doesn’t work for you, just let us know—we’d rather have an honest conversation than lose a good customer.

3. Service Methods and Customer Responsibilities

- You are responsible for shipping costs to our Arlington facility and must use a trackable method with insurance for valuable tools
- Include a note with your full name, phone number, email address, and specific sharpening instructions

- Have tools ready and accessible at your scheduled appointment time
- We’ll call if running more than 15 minutes late due to traffic, weather, or prior job overruns
- We assume responsibility for tools only after physically taking possession—package items securely before our arrival
- Same-day service isn’t guaranteed for complex repairs or during high-volume periods; we’ll discuss realistic timelines upfront
4. Pricing, Payment Terms, and Turnaround
Our standard pricing is published on our website and service sheets. Final pricing may vary based on tool condition, extent of damage, or additional repairs needed beyond basic sharpening. Before performing any work exceeding the standard quoted price, we will contact you for approval.
Payment is required in full before we return your tools or ship them back to you. We accept cash, major credit/debit cards, and personal checks (with valid ID). Accounts with balances outstanding over 30 days may incur a service fee of 1.5% per month.
Standard turnaround time is 2–4 business days for most sharpening jobs. Mobile appointments and mail-in services may vary based on our current schedule and workload. Rush service may be available for an additional fee when our schedule permits. We will always communicate realistic timelines and notify you promptly of any unexpected delays.
5. Liability and Risk Acknowledgment
We treat every tool that comes through our door with care and respect, we know these aren’t just metal objects; they’re how you earn your living. That said, sharpening involves precision grinding, heat application, and mechanical processes that carry inherent risks.
You acknowledge and agree that:
- Tools with hidden flaws, micro-fractures, prior improper sharpening, or manufacturing defects may break or become damaged during the sharpening process, despite our best efforts
- We inspect tools upon receipt and will alert you to visible concerns when possible, but we cannot detect all internal weaknesses
- Our liability for tools damaged or lost while in our physical possession is limited to either (a) replacement sharpening services at no charge, or (b) repair of the damaged item, not the full retail replacement value of professional-grade tools
- We are not liable for damage occurring during shipping to or from our facility, damage caused after tools are returned to you, or diminished performance resulting from improper tool use or maintenance after sharpening
For tools with a retail value exceeding $300, we encourage you to discuss additional protection options before submitting them for service. We carry general business liability insurance, but it has standard limits appropriate for a small service business.
6. Satisfaction Guarantee and Returns
We stand behind our sharpening craftsmanship with a 14-day satisfaction guarantee. If you receive your tools back and they don’t cut smoothly through appropriate test material (hair, fabric, etc.), return them to us within 14 days for complimentary re-sharpening, no questions asked.
This guarantee covers our sharpening workmanship only. It does not cover:
- Damage caused after tools are returned to you (drops on hard surfaces, improper cleaning chemicals, etc.)
- Normal wear and tear during use
- Performance issues resulting from improper tool maintenance or technique
- Tools that were beyond economical repair when submitted
We cannot guarantee how long a sharpened edge will last—that depends entirely on what you cut, your technique, maintenance habits, and frequency of use. A groomer working with matted dog coats will experience faster dulling than a quilter cutting cotton fabric. We’re happy to share care tips to help your edge last longer.
7. Customer Conduct and Prohibited Items
You agree not to submit for sharpening:
- Weapons of any kind (knives designed for combat, swords, machetes, etc.)
- Tools contaminated with biohazards, chemicals, or substances posing health risks to our technicians
- Stolen property or tools you do not legally own
- Items prohibited by law to possess or sharpen in the State of Texas
We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone who is abusive toward our staff, attempts to submit prohibited items, or fails to comply with these Terms. We’re friendly professionals who treat customers with respect, and we expect the same in return.

You agree to waive the right to participate in class actions related to our services.
11. Governing Law

12. Limitation of Warranties
Our services are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We don’t guarantee that sharpened tools will perform identically to brand-new factory edges or that edges will last for any specific duration. Tool performance depends on many factors beyond our control, including the material being cut, user technique, maintenance practices, and tool quality/design. We warrant only that we will perform sharpening services with reasonable skill and care consistent with industry standards for professional sharpening businesses.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Blades Sharpening Services, its owner, Rick Wilkes, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys’ fees) arising from:
- Your breach of these Terms
- Your submission of prohibited or hazardous items
- Claims that the tools you submitted for sharpening were stolen or that you lacked the authority to submit them
- Your misuse of our website or services
14. Entire Agreement and Severability
These Terms constitute the entire agreement between you and Blades Sharpening Services regarding our services. If any provision is found unenforceable, the remaining provisions stay in full effect. Our failure to enforce any right under these Terms isn’t a waiver of that right.
